Both Cornhusker Boys State and Cornhusker Girls State are week-long programs in which participants learn how the government functions by actively participating in it. Delegates campaign for offices, hold elections, and take part in a variety of activities as part of the citizenship training program
Special lectures and addresses will be delivered by experienced public officials and professional leaders throughout Nebraska. Invitations have been sent to the governor and secretary of state for special appearances at this year’s program. Nationally acclaimed motivational speakers are also scheduled to address the entire group.
Amherst junior Breckyn Veskerna, daughter of Josh and Jami Veskerna of Amherst, has been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State. Girls State will be held on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus the week of May 31-June 6, 2026. Breckyn is sponsored by Miller American Legion Auxiliary Unit 351. Congratulations Breckyn!!
The American Legion Post 351of Miller will sponsor Amherst junior Jackson Day to attend Cornhusker Boys State, held May 31 through June 6 on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jackson is the son of Jess and Marci Day of Amherst. The American Legion was created by Congress in 1919 and currently has more than 12,500 posts across the nation. Congratulations Jackson!
